History [modify] In July 1831, Joseph Naper shown up at the west bank of the Du, Page River with his household and friends to discovered what would be called Naper's Settlement. Amongst those initial inhabitants were Naper's wife Almeda Landon, his sibling John with better half Betsy Goff, his sister Amy with partner John Murray, and his mom Sarah.

Likewise on the journey were numerous households who stayed in the settlement that would become Chicago, including that of Dexter Graves who is memorialized in Graceland Cemetery by the widely known Lorado Taft statue "Eternal Silence" (likewise called "the Dexter Graves Monolith"). By 1832, over one hundred inhabitants had actually reached Naper's Settlement.

Fort Payne was developed at Naper's Settlement, the inhabitants returned and the attack never emerged. The Pre-Emption Home was constructed in 1834, as the Settlement ended up being a stage-coach stop on the road from Chicago to Galena. Reconstructions of Fort Payne and the Pre-Emption House stand as part of Naper Settlement outside museum town, which was developed by the Naperville Heritage Society and the Naperville Park District in 1969 to preserve a few of the neighborhood's earliest buildings.
